Japanese Jeans "MONPE
The "monpe," which took root after World War II as agricultural work clothes, was a loose-fitting silhouette with a large hips. Eel Bedding developed this product in response to requests from local residents who wanted to make monpe from fabrics they had unwrapped from antiques and kimonos they had been keeping in their wardrobes. While saving cloth, the monpe was designed to be simple, taking advantage of its width of about 36 cm (kimono length), and as a result, a slim "monpe" was born with the functionality of a monpe intact. This is the standard MONPE of today.
As a "type" to compare fabrics
MONPE" is a project to transform and convey the comfort and workability of "monpe," which was popular as farm work clothes, to the modern age while making the best use of them. The project began with the use of Kurume Kasuri from Fukuoka Prefecture, and has now spread to textiles from many regions.
Stashiko-hanaori
This is a collaboration between production areas, in which handwoven indigo-dyed hanaori fabric made by Takuya Oshiro of Nunu Kobo in Nanpuhara-cho, Okinawa is used as a design source and machine-woven by Miyata Orimono in Chikugo City, Fukuoka Prefecture. Hanaori is characterized by a three-dimensional floating pattern, and the texture of this stitch-like fabric is reproduced on a rapier loom.
