Each mug is produced by a different potter (craftsman) in each region of Japan, using local materials and identical designs. Mugs with an internal shape that creates fine bubbles (crema) that lock in the aroma of coffee.
Kyoyaki ( Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture )
Kyoto's Toan craftsmen apply a glaze called crystalline glaze, which has the characteristic of producing flower-like crystals during the melting and cooling process, to finish this product. The simple shape of the mug is functional for everyday use, and the various shapes of crystals appear on this handmade mug, making no two mugs alike.

Please note that ceramic products tend to differ in color and pattern from the images shown here due to climate change, the way the kiln is fired, and the characteristics of the glaze. Also, because they are handmade, there may be variations in size and thickness, as well as unevenness.
Size may vary depending on the position of the glaze in a high-temperature furnace.
Thickness and unevenness are the result of accidental glaze application by the craftsman.
The roundness of the interior bottom was devised to create a good coffee foam.
The pattern of the flower crystals differs from one piece to another in size, shape, and the way they spread. Please enjoy the beauty of the crystalline flowers created by chance.
Kyoyaki and Kiyomizuyaki
Kiyomizu-yaki is one of Kyoto's representative traditional crafts, and was originally called "Kiyomizu-yaki" in reference to pottery produced at kilns in the Kiyomizu-zaka area, which faces Kiyomizu-dera Temple. Today, the pottery produced in the Higashiyama area, Yamashina, Uji, etc. is called "Kyo-yaki/Kiyomizu-yaki".
Toan
Established in 1922, Toan is a Kyoto-yaki and Kiyomizu-yaki potter. Since its establishment in Sennyuji Temple in Higashiyama, Kyoto, Toan has been using high-quality raw materials and the hands of skilled craftsmen to produce gorgeous and original pottery, while at the same time continuing to inherit traditions and constantly working on technological innovations.
