Japanese Jeans "MONPE
The "monpe," which took root after World War II as agricultural work clothes, was a loose-fitting silhouette with a large hips. Eel Bedding developed this product in response to requests from local residents who wanted to make monpe from fabrics they had unwrapped from antiques and kimonos they had been keeping in their wardrobes. While saving cloth, the monpe was designed to be simple, taking advantage of its width of about 36 cm (kimono length), and as a result, a slim "monpe" was born with the functionality of a monpe intact. This is the standard MONPE of today.
As a "type" to compare fabrics
MONPE" is a project to transform and convey the comfort and workability of "monpe," which was popular as farm work clothes, to the modern age while making the best use of them. Starting with Kurume Kasuri from Fukuoka Prefecture, the project has now expanded to include textiles from many regions.
Stretch MIYATA ITA/Itazome Stretch
In collaboration with Miyata Orimono, a former Kurume Kasuri weaver, we developed a stretchy mompae by weaving in warp yarns dyed using the ita-dyeing technique instead of the kasuri-dyeing method, and by adding 2% polyurethane to the weft yarns.
*This fabric is not Kurume Kasuri.
