Mugs to last a lifetime / Hachinohe Ware
Each mug is produced by a different potter (craftsman) in each region of Japan using local materials and the same design. This mug has an internal shape that creates a fine foam (crema) that locks in the aroma of the coffee.
Hachinohe Ware ( Hachinohe City, Aomori Prefecture )
The outside is covered with a green glaze called "Ryokuyu" (green glaze), while the inside is covered with a white glaze that allows the color of the base material to show through to create a light pink color. The deep green color contrasts with the soft light pink.

Please note that ceramic products tend to differ in color and pattern from the images shown here due to changes in climate, the way the kiln is fired, and the characteristics of the glaze. Also, because they are handmade, there may be variations in size and thickness, as well as unevenness.
Size may vary depending on the position of the glaze in a high-temperature furnace.
Thickness and unevenness are the result of accidental glaze application by the craftsman.
The roundness of the interior bottom was devised to create a good coffee foam.
Hachinohe Pottery
The current Hachinohe Pottery was reestablished in 1975 by the first generation potter, Shozan Watanabe. Miraculously, the kiln site of the phantom Hachinohe Pottery, which was fired in Kanisawamachi in Hachinohe City until the end of the Edo period, was discovered. Using the excavated pottery shards as a reference, he created his own unique Hachinohe Pottery. His unique deep green glaze, called the color of beech nurtured by the great nature of Aomori and the color of sea grass rubbed by the rough waves of Sanriku, is highly valued.
Shozangama Kiln, Watanabe Pottery
Shozangama Kiln, Watanabe Tobo, miraculously discovered in 1975 the ruins of a kiln of Hachinohe pottery, which had been fired in Kanisamanaka in Hachinohe City until the end of the Edo period. Using the unearthed pottery shards as a reference, he created his own unique Hachinohe Pottery. His unique green glaze is said to be the color of beech nurtured by the great nature of Aomori, or the color of seaweed rubbed by the rough waves of Sanriku.
