Farmers' MONPE Kiryu Cut Jacquard / Dot Pattern / Black / Eel bed
Three-dimensional polka dot pattern in jacquard
In collaboration with Kiryu Seisome Shoji in Kiryu, Gunma Prefecture, the pattern is woven using a machine called a jacquard loom, with each warp thread individually controlled. The long threads that cross between the motifs are cut and the fur is arranged to create a three-dimensional polka dot pattern.

What is Jacquard?
Jacquard looms have a device that controls each individual warp thread of the fabric. Complex patterns can be expressed by giving instructions on which threads should be shown on the front and which should be hidden on the back, and so on. Designs with a high degree of freedom, from small motifs to large continuous patterns, can be created.
Joseph Marie Jacquard, a French inventor, developed a punch-card-controlled Jacquard machine in 1801 in Lyon, where the textile industry was thriving. In Japan, Jacquard machines were introduced in the Meiji period (1868-1912) in such production areas as Nishijin, Kyoto; Kiryu, Gunma; and Koronai, Yamanashi, and today computer-controlled "electronic Jacquard" is widely used.

Ryomo Production Area (Gunma/Tochigi)
The Ryomo district, which straddles the southeastern part of Gunma Prefecture and the southwestern part of Tochigi Prefecture, is a production area with a thriving textile industry. Ashikaga in Tochigi, Kiryu in Gunma, and other areas where the textile industry is flourishing cooperate with each other in manufacturing, and these areas are collectively called the "Ryomo Production Area.
The major characteristic of the Ryomo production area is that almost all aspects of textile production, including weaving, knitting, dyeing, embroidery, processing, and sewing, are available in the production area. The Ryoge region has been a thriving commercial center since the Edo period (1603-1867), and its close proximity to designers, technical capabilities, and research spirit in response to diverse needs continue to support the global fashion scene behind the scenes.
