Suzumo Chochin / MIC*ITAYA Series / Spherical base / Tori / M
This lantern has a familiar shape as its motif, and has the function of an "up-and-over" device. The chochin also has a humorous "movement" that prevents the main body from tipping over, and the cordless use and switches with a sonic sensor can be enjoyed as an objet d'art.
Suzuki Mohei Shoten of Mito City, Ibaraki Prefecture, has a 150-year history of making chochin, and is proposing a "lifestyle with chochin" with the hope of conveying to the world the appeal of chochin, a beautiful traditional Japanese craft that still lives on today. We see chochin, a traditional Japanese craft, as an old and new interior lighting fixture and aesthetic object work, and hope that they can be a small but sure help in people's lives as a light of hope to brightly illuminate the present and the future.
