Kawawada, Sabae City, Fukui Prefecture.Surrounded by mountains on three sides andknown as a lacquer town, Kawawada is a humid region with cloudy skies.In winter, it snows continuously, andthe cold is very hard on the body.This harsh environmentis said to be ideal for the hardening of lacquer.
Dishwasher-safe
Although 100% natural lacquer is used without any scientific paints, it is dishwasher-safe.

Echizen hard lacquer
It is said that lacquer becomes hardest 100 years after it is applied, and it takes many years for it to fully harden. Echizen Hard Urushi is a lacquer that can withstand dishwashers, and its hard coating was achieved through an industry-academia-government collaboration with Fukui Prefecture and the University of Fukui.

BrushstrokesTechnique
The Hakeme technique, which makes the most of the brush marks made by hand-painting, requires excellent technique because it cannot be reapplied after painting. It is recommended for daily use because fine scratches do not stand out.

RENEW
RENEW is an event held in the Tannan area of Fukui Prefecture (Sabae City, Echizen City, and Echizen Town) to open up the workshop with the aim of creating a sustainable community, and was awarded the Good Design Award in 2019.
