Suwada Seisakusho:
Founded in 1926 in Sanjo City, Niigata Prefecture, one of the world's leading cutlery production centers. The company was founded in 1926 in Sanjo, Niigata Prefecture, one of the world's leading cutlery makers. The company's founder, Shuzaburo Kobayashi, started manufacturing "Gikiris" for carpenters to meet the demand for housing reconstruction after the Great Kanto Earthquake (1923).
Among knives, we specialize in kuikiri-type knives, that is, knives with blades on both sides that fit together to cut objects, and we have been committed to consistent and careful manufacturing from material selection to completion since our founding. For more than 90 years since then, we have specialized in the manufacture of nipper-type blades that "cut by aligning the blades" and have produced nail clippers and other products that enhance "beauty".
■ SWD ART LAB - Swada Art Lab:
SWD ART LAB is challenging to create new art works by reusing waste materials (mainly steel materials discharged during high-pressure forging of products such as nail clippers and bonsai shears), which are always discharged at factories when producing blades, instead of discarding them as in the past.
What is the Tsubame-Sanjo Industrial Festival?
A factory tour event that has been held since 2013, allowing customers to experience the manufacturing sites of Tsubame-Sanjo's metalworking and other facilities as they are. It is a joint effort by the public and private sectors to improve various problems such as the lack of successors to craftspeople and the closure of businesses, and to pass on the fire of Tsubame-Sanjo's manufacturing tradition to the next generation.
