MONPE WhO Abekobe stripe / blue / eel bed
Contradictory Beauty "Abekobe
For this collaboration, the wallpaper brand " WhO" and Kurume Kasuri were used as the theme for the product development. Through repeated dialogue between the weaver, WhO, the designer, and the eel bed, Kurume-gasuri fabric was produced, and MONPE was created using this fabric.
The design theme was "abekobe. The name "Abekobe" is derived from the fact that pole-pole, who is in charge of the design, found the unique fluctuation of the kasuri pattern to be uniquely interesting and strangely uncomfortable, and named it with respect for the creator of the fabric.

pole-pole
Pole-Pole is a design company formed by textile designers based on the concept of"not a new design, but an important design.
About this design
In talking with local weavers, I realized that the beauty of Kurume-gasuri lies not in the fact that the patterns are out of alignment (i.e., grainy), but rather in the craftsmen's desire to somehow make the patterns fit beautifully together. We considered this feeling as important in constructing the design.

Kurume Kasuri, a fabric with excellent breathability, water absorbency, and quick-drying properties
The fabric is Kurume Kasuri from the Chikugo region of southern Fukuoka Prefecture. It is woven loosely and softly on a vintage shuttle loom, allowing air to flow through the fabric, making it breathable and comfortable to wear. The more you use it, the more comfortable it becomes, and it dries quickly due to its high water absorbency.
Japanese jeans "MONPE
The "monpe" was established after World War II as farm work clothes, and its shape was a loose silhouette with a large buttock area. Eel Bedding developed this product in response to requests from local people who wanted to make monpe from fabrics they had unwrapped from antiques and kimonos that had been left to accumulate in their wardrobes. While saving cloth, the monpe was designed to be simple, taking advantage of its width of about 36 cm (kimono length), and as a result, a slim "monpe" was born with the functionality of a monpe intact. This is the standard MONPE of today.
