Corduroy production area: Shizuoka, Enshu Soft and fluffy, smooth to the touch

MONPE, a domestic corduroy produced in collaboration with Fukuda Orimono of Enshu, Shizuoka, has a soft and fluffy feel. This softness is created by repeatedly rubbing and washing with abundant water, a characteristic of the Enshu corduroy production process. Fukuda Orimono examines the density of the weave and the tension of the warp threads to take advantage of this texture. The softness that cotton possesses is brought out to the maximum.

Thick-ribbed 5-welt corduroy is used.

Farmers' MONPE Enshu Thick-ribbed corduroy uses the same mold as regular Farmers' MONPE, but due to the nature of the fabric, it feels slightly larger.

How corduroy is made

Weaving: A technique that only a high-density textile production area can offer.

Corduroy is a thick fabric woven in a high-density weave, with the weft strongly beaten in to prevent the cut pile from falling out. The technique of making canvas developed in the Iwata area of Enshu is utilized, resulting in a finish with superior strength and durability.

(2) Catching: Creating "ridges," the key to corduroy

After corduroy fabrics are woven, they undergo a process called "cutting" at a specialized factory. Using a guide needle and a circular cutter, the pile yarns are cut into ridges to create a unique ridged surface.

(3) Water washing: A process unique to Enshu that brings out the softness

After cutting, approximately 5,000 meters of the yarn undergoes a rubbing and washing process. This is a unique technique that can only be produced in Enshu, where an abundance of water and rollers are used to remove the glue, raise the fluff, and make the fabric soft.

4) Burning: "Burning" creates beautiful fur

After rubbing and washing, corduroy fabrics are burned with a flame of approximately 600°C to burn off unnecessary fluff on the surface, and the ridges are beautifully arranged. The fabric is then rubbed and washed again, resulting in a fluffy corduroy fabric.

Shizuoka-Enshu, a textile production area, accounts for more than 95% of the domestic market share of corduroy.

In the Enshu region of western Shizuoka Prefecture, cotton cultivation and textiles have developed, taking advantage of the abundant water of the Tenryu River and the mild climate. Thick fabrics are especially popular on the east side of the Tenryu River (Iwata City, Kakegawa City, etc.), and as the only corduroy production area in Japan, it boasts a more than 95% share of the domestic market.

The Best Relaxation "Farmer's MONPE

MONPE" is a project to transform the "monpe", which was popular as farm work clothes, to fit the modern age, while taking advantage of its comfort and workability.

The "Farmer 's MONPE " is closer to the old-fashioned MONPE, with a looser silhouette around the hips and wider from the knees to the calves than the modern MONPE. It is the best relaxing wear that can be worn without feeling tight while at the same time letting you know the history. Recommended for those who use it for work or exercise, or for those who are concerned about the narrowness below the knees of modern-style MONPE.
