HAORI" is a modern reworking of an ancient haori worn since ancient times, interpreted by the eel bed

Wearing model Left: 169cm, Right: 158cm

Originally, the haori was mainly worn over a kimono, and its balance needed to be reconsidered before it could be worn in the modern age. The haori has been reinterpreted with a shape and specifications that make it easy to wear in the modern age.

The wide sleeve widths that match the kimono are cut to create a clean silhouette. There are slits at the cuffs, and the length can be adjusted by bending them.

Comes with ties to adjust the amount of room when worn. The way to wear it is not only to tie or not tie the strings, but also to cross them to wear it like a samue.

The strings on the inside can be pulled out through the string threads on the sides on either side and tied at the back. This gives the overall silhouette a clean look.

Quick and warm

Both the warp and weft yarns are made of a combination of cotton and wool yarns, which are washed and heated. This shrinks the wool and creates an uneven surface, making it difficult for air to pass through and keeping it warm. It can be worn as a warm cloak when going out, and can also be adjusted indoors.

Soft and fluffy comfort

The fabric is made by Tohan Dyeing Works in Nishiwaki City, Hyogo Prefecture, using a 1-5 twill weave structure. The characteristic of this weave is that each weft yarn is woven so that the weft is layered with fullness, rather than the taut twill weave (typical of denim). This makes the fabric soft and fluffy to the touch.

As a local cultural trading company in the Chikugo region of southern Fukuoka Prefecture, the company delves into the local character and history of the region and the background behind the creation of its products, and engages in activities that connect makers and users. MONPE" was born from a dialogue with the makers, and received the Good Design Award in 2016.
