Founded in 1908 as Gado Mokkosho, Gado Mikio Shoten has inherited the philosophy of a woodworker and is dedicated to the perfection of the original wood of lacquer ware.
The name "Karumi" was taken from one of the haikai philosophies of the haiku poet Matsuo Basho, "Karumi" meaning "lightness. Karumi" expresses the light-heartedness felt in daily life, without elaborating on knowledge or technique. It is also common to the philosophy of beautiful design that seems to exude from within.
