How to care for your Kurihisa bentwood

Kurihisa Kurikyu's bent-wood products have different finishes (painted or not) depending on the product.

To ensure long use of your Kurihisa bent wappa, here are the care instructions for each type of product. We hope you will have a long-lasting relationship with our handmade products made of precious Akita cedar.

Painted items (with paint)

Painted items can be washed with diluted detergent!

Unlike white wood, painted wood does not soak into the surface and is repellant, so if oil gets on it, you can wash it with detergent.
If oil gets on them, they can be washed with detergent.

When a lunch box is washed on the go, it may turn black if the lid is left on for a long time without drying thoroughly. If you cannot wash and dry it immediately after use, we recommend that you wash and dry it thoroughly after bringing it home.
If you can wash and dry it immediately after use, wash it in boiling water, spread it out, and dry it thoroughly.

■ Unpainted items (white wood, unpainted)

The key is to blot with hot water and dry facing up!

You may have the impression that white wood is difficult to handle or moldy, but it is easy to care for simply by washing it in hot water and drying it thoroughly.

1. soak in hot water (80-90℃) for 5-10 minutes.
If there is a lot of sticking to the surface, use longer soaking time.

2. Scrub inside and out along the grain of the wood with a sponge without detergent.

3. Once the inside is clean, pour hot water (80-90℃) over the entire surface to warm the wood and wipe with a cloth.

*After pouring hot water on the wood, wipe it with a cloth and hang it up to dry, so that the heat of vaporization will release the moisture and dry it well. Please note that if you only drain the cloth after washing, it will not dry and will turn black. 4.

4. hang dry facing up. Dry it as soon as possible. This is the key point!

(Tip) After wiping with a cloth, warm the cloth in a 500W microwave oven for 40 to 60 seconds (depending on the size) to dry it quickly by vaporization heat.
