The name "Raku" means "fun" and "easy" in Japanese, and is intended to make everyday dining enjoyable and easy, Universal design tableware series. The series was created by a traditional Aizu lacquerware craftsman, a non-profit organization that supports people with disabilities, and a designer in Fukushima Prefecture, and was designed to be easy to use for everyone, regardless of disability.
The product has functionality and beauty that combine the ease of use brought about by the perspective of people with disabilities with the skills of lacquerware craftsmen, and the fact that people with disabilities are always involved at some point in the development and production process, and the purchase of the product leads to increased income for the facility. The process was also evaluated as a universal design and received the 2014 Good Design Award.
